बिटिया बड़ी हो गयी।
एक रोज उसने बड़े सहज भाव में अपने पिता से पूछा –
“पापा, क्या मैंने आपको कभी रुलाया” ?
पिता ने कहा -“हाँ ”
उसने बड़े आश्चर्य से पूछा – “कब” ?
पिता ने बताया –
“उस समय तुम करीब एक साल की थीं,
घुटनों पर सरकती थीं।
मैंने तुम्हारे सामने पैसे, पेन और खिलौना रख दिया क्योंकि मैं ये देखना चाहता था कि, तुम तीनों में से किसे उठाती हो तुम्हारा चुनाव मुझे बताता कि, बड़ी होकर तुम किसे अधिक महत्व देतीं।
जैसे पैसे मतलब संपत्ति, पेन मतलब बुद्धि और खिलौना मतलब आनंद।
मैंने ये सब बहुत सहजता से लेकिन उत्सुकतावश किया था।
क्योंकि मुझे सिर्फ तुम्हारा चुनाव देखना था।
तुम एक जगह स्थिर बैठीं टुकुर टुकुर उन तीनों वस्तुओं को देख रहीं थीं।
मैं तुम्हारे सामने उन वस्तुओं की दूसरी ओर खामोश बैठा बस तुम्हें ही देख रहा था।
तुम घुटनों और हाथों के बल सरकती आगे बढ़ीं।
मैं अपनी श्वांस रोके तुम्हें ही देख रहा था और क्षण भर में ही तुमने तीनों वस्तुओं को आजू-बाजू सरका दिया और उन्हें पार करती हुई आकर सीधे मेरी गोद में बैठ गयीं।
मुझे ध्यान ही नहीं रहा कि, उन तीनों वस्तुओं के अलावा तुम्हारा एक चुनाव मैं भी तो हो सकता था।
तभी तुम्हारा तीन साल का भाई आया ओर पैसे उठाकर चला गया।
वो पहली और आखरी बार था बेटा जब, तुमने मुझे रुलाया और बहुत रुलाया।”
