স্বামী কোন মতে সাহস সঞ্চয় করে বললেনঃ- আমি মাকে আনতে গ্রামের বাড়িতে চলে গিয়েছিলাম I
আগুনে যেন পেট্রোল পড়ল I
স্ত্রী ঝাঁজিয়ে উঠে বললেনঃ- কি ই ই ই ই ই ই ?
কি বললে ?
তোমার মাকে এখানে নিয়ে এসেছ ?
তোমার লজ্জা নেই ?
তোমার ভাইয়ের কাছে ওনার কি অসুবিধা হচ্ছিল ?
স্ত্রী রাগে এমন আচ্ছন্ন ছিলেন
যে পাশেই সাদা শাড়িতে মুখ ঢেকে
এক বৃদ্ধা যে চোখের জল রোধ করার চেষ্টা করছেন,
সেটা খেয়ালই করছেন না !
স্বামী বলছেনঃ- ওনাকে আমার ভাইয়ের কাছে রাখা যাবে না I
স্ত্রীর চোখে আগুন জ্বলে উঠলঃ- কেন ?
এখানে কুবেরের ভান্ডার আছে নাকি ?
তোমার সাত হাজার টাকা মাইনে দিয়ে বাচ্চার পড়াশুনার খরচ বয়ে
পুরোটা সংসার আমি কিভাবে চালাচ্ছি,
সেটা একমাত্র আমিই জানি !
স্ত্রীর কণ্ঠে এতটাই ঝাঁজ ছিল !
স্বামী গলার স্বর দৃঢ় করে বললেনঃ- আজ থেকে উনি আমাদের কাছেই থাকবেন I
স্ত্রী গলার সুর সপ্তমে নিয়ে বলছেনঃ- আমি বলছি ওনাকে এই মুহূর্তে তোমার ভাইয়ের ওখানে রেখে এসো!
নইলে আমি এই ঘরে এক মুহূর্ত থাকব না I
আর এই মহারানীরও কি এখানে আসতে একটুও লজ্জা করল না ?
এ কথা বলে স্ত্রী যেই সেই অসহায় বৃদ্ধার দিকে তাকালেন,
তার পায়ের নীচ থেকে মাটি সরে গেল !!…
গলার সুর নরম করে আবেগতাড়িত হয়ে বললেনঃ- মা, তুমি ?
বৃদ্ধা কাঁদো কাঁদো হয়ে বললেন– হ্যাঁ রে, তোর ভাই আর ভাইয়ের বউ আমাকে ঘর থেকে তাড়িয়ে দিয়েছে I
কোথায় যাব!
তারপর আমি জামাইকে ফোন করলে সেই আমাকে এখানে নিয়ে এসেছে !
বৃদ্ধার কথা শুনে স্ত্রী এক কৃতজ্ঞ দৃষ্টি নিয়ে
স্বামীর দিকে তাকালেন আর হেসে বললেনঃ- তুমিও খুব নাটকবাজ,
