शादी की वर्षगांठ की पूर्वसंध्या पर पति-पत्नी साथ में बैठे चाय की चुस्कियां ले रहे थे।
संसार की दृष्टि में वो एक आदर्श युगल था।
प्रेम भी बहुत था दोनों में लेकिन कुछ समय से ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था कि संबंधों पर समय की धूल जम रही है। शिकायतें धीरे-धीरे बढ़ रही थीं।
बातें करते-करते अचानक पत्नी ने एक प्रस्ताव रखा-
“मुझे तुमसे बहुत कुछ कहना होता है लेकिन हमारे पास समय ही नहीं होता एक-दूसरे के लिए।
इसलिए मैं दो डायरियाँ ले आती हूँ और हमारी जो भी शिकायत हो हम पूरा साल अपनी-अपनी डायरी में लिखेंगे।
अगले साल इसी दिन हम एक-दूसरे की डायरी पढ़ेंगे ताकि हमें पता चल सके कि हममें कौन सी कमियां हैं जिससे कि उसका पुनरावर्तन ना हो सके।”
पति भी सहमत हो गया कि विचार तो अच्छा है।
डायरियाँ आ गईं और देखते ही देखते साल बीत गया।
अगले साल फिर विवाह की वर्षगांठ की पूर्वसंध्या पर दोनों साथ बैठे।
एक-दूसरे की डायरियाँ लीं।
पहले आप, पहले आप की मनुहार हुई।
आखिर में महिला प्रथम की परिपाटी के आधार पर पत्नी की लिखी डायरी पति ने पढ़नी शुरू की।
पहला पन्ना…… दूसरा पन्ना…….. तीसरा पन्ना।
…..आज शादी की वर्षगांठ पर मुझे ढंग का तोहफा नहीं दिया।
…….आज होटल में खाना खिलाने का वादा करके भी नहीं ले गए।
…….आज मेरे फेवरेट हीरो की पिक्चर दिखाने के लिए कहा तो जवाब मिला बहुत थक गया हूँ।
……..आज मेरे मायके वाले आए तो उनसे ढंग से बात नहीं की।
………. आज बरसों बाद मेरे लिए साड़ी लाए भी तो पुराने डिजाइन की।
ऐसी अनेक रोज़ की छोटी-छोटी फरियादें लिखी हुई थीं।
पढ़कर पति की आँखों में आँसू आ गए।
पूरा पढ़कर पति ने कहा-
“मुझे पता ही नहीं था मेरी गल्तियों का।
मैं ध्यान रखूँगा कि आगे से ये दोबारा ना हों।”
अब पत्नी ने पति की डायरी खोली
पहला पन्ना……… कोरा
दूसरा पन्ना……… कोरा
तीसरा पन्ना ……… कोरा
अब दो-चार पन्ने साथ में पलटे वो भी कोरे।
फिर 50-100 पन्ने साथ में पलटे तो वो भी कोरे।
*पत्नी ने कहा-
“मुझे पता था कि तुम मेरी इतनी सी इच्छा भी पूरी नहीं कर सकोगे।
मैंने पूरा साल इतनी मेहनत से तुम्हारी सारी कमियां लिखीं ताकि तुम उन्हें सुधार सको।
और तुमसे इतना भी नहीं हुआ।”
पति मुस्कुराया और कहा-
“मैंने सब कुछ अंतिम पृष्ठ पर लिख दिया है।”
पत्नी ने उत्सुकता से अंतिम पृष्ठ खोला। उसमें लिखा था… 
:-*
“मैं तुम्हारे मुँह पर तुम्हारी जितनी भी शिकायत कर लूँ लेकिन तुमने जो मेरे और मेरे परिवार के लिए त्याग किए हैं और इतने वर्षों में जो असीमित प्रेम दिया है उसके सामने मैं इस डायरी में लिख सकूँ ऐसी कोई कमी मुझे तुममें दिखाई ही नहीं दी।
ऐसा नहीं है कि तुममें कोई कमी नहीं है लेकिन तुम्हारा प्रेम, तुम्हारा समर्पण, तुम्हारा त्याग उन सब कमियों से ऊपर है।
मेरी अनगिनत अक्षम्य भूलों के बाद भी तुमने जीवन के प्रत्येक चरण में छाया बनकर मेरा साथ निभाया है।
अब अपनी ही छाया में कोई दोष कैसे दिखाई दे मुझे।”
अब रोने की बारी पत्नी की थी।
उसने पति के हाथ से अपनी डायरी लेकर दोनों डायरियाँ अग्नि में स्वाहा कर दीं और साथ में सारे गिले-शिकवे भी।
फिर से उनका जीवन एक नवपरिणीत युगल की भाँति प्रेम से महक उठा।
जब जवानी का सूर्य अस्ताचल की ओर प्रयाण शुरू कर दे, तब हम एक-दूसरे की कमियां या गल्तियां ढूँढने की बजाए अगर ये याद करें हमारे साथी ने हमारे लिए कितना त्याग किया है, उसने हमें कितना प्रेम दिया है, कैसे पग-पग पर हमारा साथ दिया है तो निश्चित ही जीवन में प्रेम फिर से पल्लवित हो जाएगा।
